Make-Up Artist Magazine 20th Anniversary Campaign

Art Direction | Global Production | Integrated Campaign

In 2016, Make-Up Artist Magazine marked its 20th anniversary with a multi-stage campaign that began with a gala celebration, continued through a series of editorial photo shoots, and culminated in the launch of a landmark anniversary issue. As Art Director, I led the creative vision and end-to-end execution of this milestone, transforming a single issue into a multi-channel brand moment that celebrated two decades of artistry while unifying the global make-up community.

The celebration began with the 20th Anniversary Gala in January 2016, which brought together the Make-Up Artist community across high fashion, film, and special effects. This event helped set the tone for the anniversary year and established the creative energy that carried into the editorial campaign. Following the gala, I produced a three-city photo shoot across Los Angeles, New York, and London in April and May 2016 to create the artwork and stories for Issue 121, “20 Years of Epic Artistry.”

Issue 121 became the largest publication in the magazine’s history at 170 pages. Concepted as both a tribute and a time capsule, the issue featured over 75 of the industry’s most influential artists. I developed the creative direction for a tri-fold cover and expansive editorial storytelling format, designed to elevate the artists and their work beyond traditional print conventions.

To bring this vision to life, I oversaw a complex, multi-city production spanning Los Angeles, New York, and London. This required coordinating five photographers, three video teams, studio locations, talent schedules, and on-site logistics across time zones. While navigating new motherhood, I led the production remotely, partnering closely with Senior Designer Nick Wiinikka, who directed on-the-ground execution. Our collaboration ensured seamless translation of creative vision into final assets, delivered on deadline for the June 2016 print run.

The campaign extended beyond print into experiential and community-driven touch points. IMATS Los Angeles, typically held in January, was moved to July 2016 to anchor the anniversary celebration and align with the issue launch. The visual identity and storytelling established in the magazine carried through to the trade show environment, reinforcing a cohesive and immersive brand experience.

This project exemplified my ability to lead large-scale creative initiatives that integrate editorial, live events, and global production, balancing vision, logistics, and collaboration to deliver a culturally resonant campaign.
